About

With a degree in journalism and a passion for sport (both as a participant and spectator), it seemed a natural fit for me to start my own sports-dedicated blog.

Compiled over the past decade, my previous blog (atouchofirishintheglobalvillage.com) contained over 2,300 articles and garnered 900,000 page visits, however as the old saying goes, a change is as good as a holiday – so welcome to my new and improved blog.

Born in Ireland, I came to Australia in 1971 and that’s where my obsession with AFL, in particular the Hawthorn Football Club began. I used to stand on steel beer cans in the outer to catch a glimpse of Peter Hudson. I miss the suburban pilgrimage and tribal feel of the VFL but my unconditional love for the Hawks remains.

I am an avid fan of the ‘other’ football, soccer (huge Aston Villa fanatic) and a lover of test cricket. Other than featuring articles on AFL, soccer and cricket, my blog will also focus on other sports, including netball, tennis and Major League Baseball.

I’ve had my articles appear on sites all over the globe. Sport has that magical power of bringing people from all walks of life together. Thank you for visiting – I hope you enjoy reading my honest and, hopefully, thought-provoking views on a wide range of sports.
